Repairs complete to the Pioneer offices

June 17, 2009 at 5:56 am (RP)

After the activities that accompanied the Declaration of Independence on Shadow, the Pioneer offices took a major amount of damage, and we have been unable to get things running again until last week. The much delayed report about the Cobb Compton Memorial was finally made available, but previous information will need to be pulled from the Cortex News Service. The staff at the Pioneer wishes to apologize for the lack of information, and will do its best to keep you informed of all activities on Shadow. We thank you for your patronage.

(OOC: I lost track of what I needed to do, and have other RL issues rectified. Sorry for the missed posts.)

Memorial to Cobb Compton at Shadow

June 10, 2009 at 3:11 am (RP)

Cobb Compton Memorial
Though the block of marble has been in place for just about two months, the memories of Shadow residents are still solemn when visiting the small memorial dedicated to Cobb Compton, one of the early founders of Shadow’s re-emergent community.

Located just to the north of the Jade Saloon and near the bridge connecting the small church to the community itself, the memorial contains a picture of Cobb on horseback with another founder, Mikie Rhiadra. An everlasting candle and a rose are laid to rest on the top, with an engraved verse on the side, reading “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on,” much in the way that his contributions, though ended, are lasting in the view and feel of the area.

No word as to whether Mr. Compton will ever be found, but he will be remembered nevertheless.

The return of the Unwanted Guests

April 23, 2009 at 2:46 am (RP)

On Monday night, a trio of Alliance officers arrived during a get together at the Jade Saloon, looking for Mikie Rhiadra for “questioning” again. As before, no real reason was give, but unlike the previous meeting at Sihnon, this one did meet with hot tempers and even hotter lead.

According to witnesses, the lead officer attempted to apprehend Mikie, while a second officer held Kermudgeon Baar at gunpoint, and the third accosted Jubal Zerbino at the door. Having had enough of the Alliance interference, Mikie pulled out her trusty weapon to show the Alliance how much she meant business on being left alone.

Mr. Baar was able to nearly disarm the one officer, managing to bloody his nose after distracting him. Shots rang out, and the purple bellies backed out of the saloon in a hurry. Angered residents and guests followed them out, showing them the accuracy of their weapons and the fury of their anger. When the smoke cleared, all three officers had been wounded, and crawled away with their tails between their legs.

Word around the settlement is that there will be more to be done about this repeated Alliance incursion to the lives of Shadow’s residents. Keep an eye on the Pioneer or CNS for more information to follow.

Harrassment by Alliance “Peace Officers” Continues

April 3, 2009 at 2:18 am (RP)

In what seems to be an increasing problem in this portion of the ‘verse, Alliance officers that were seen at a private Sihnon event have again targeted Mikie Rhiadra, a simple land owner from Shadow, for censure and interrogation.

The first incident happened at the wedding between Ms Rhiadra and Lerch Swashbucker, where the two people were questioned at length right in the middle of their own reception, with Alliance officers detaining everyone else on the dance floor. Several agitated guests were seen talking with the officers, demanding answers for their interruption of the happy occasion. The only word from those officers seemed to indicate that they were as clueless as the people they were detaining. Weapons were drawn, but thankfully no shots were fired.

The second incident happened the very next day at a yacht party for select VIPs, hosted my Ms. Marnie Baar. Guests to the event were scanned for unknown items before being allowed to participate at the party. Things seemed to go well until the end of the party, when the Alliance officers again tried to detain Ms. Rhiadra for questioning. However, she was less than happy with their intereference, and allegedly broke the arm of one of the officers that attempted to “restrain” her. She eventually did comply with their request to accompany them to a local station, where she was released several hours later. Ms. Baar was also seen talking heatedly with the Alliance captain afterward, and left the conversation very upset.

What this means for Mikie Rhiadra, Marnie Baar or any of their associates, remains to be seen.

Another wedding!

Lerch Swashbuckler and Mikie Rhiadra

Lerch Swashbuckler and Mikie Rhiadra

On March 31st, Lerch Swashbucker and Mikie Rhiadra tied the knot, becoming the second couple in as many months to be married from the new Shadow settlements. Many friends, several that have not been seen in quite a while, were in attendance at the packed chapel in the new settlement.

The reception following was held in the small settlement, with a beautiful spread of delicacies to dine on, cake for celebrating, and alcohol flowing freely. Couples danced and laughed the night away, celebrating the union of two wonderful people.

Unfortunately, the party was interrupted by a combat patrol of Alliance officers, allegedly to “speak” with the new Mrs Swashbuckler regarding an unknown topic. Mikie refused to comment, saying only that the issue was “resolved” for now. The guests were detained until the patrol left as mysteriously as they arrived.

The party returned to full swing in earnest, with much fun had by all that attended.

New saloon opens at Shadow

Jade Saloon is the newest establishment on Shadow

Jade Saloon is the newest establishment on Shadow

Bar manager Mikie Rhiadra announced the opening of  “The Jade Saloon” on the renovated surface of Shadow, home of Serenity Station. The quiet opening was attended by a few of the local residents, with several offworld visitors adding to the wonderful atmosphere.

The saloon boasts a stocked bar, several tables for sitting and admiring the dance pole adorning one wall (and anyone wishing to partake of it), a working piano and poker table, as well as several rooms on the second floor, still to be put to use as the ground area continues to develop.

The saloon joins the shipyard and nearby garage area as signs of new expansion since settlement was attempted following terraforming of the planet. When asked about the new building, local resident and garage owner Tabitha Diesel commented, “[It’s] a sign of real development in the community and would benefit all by bringing in new faces and their commerce. Gives people a place to unwind after all the hard work they do to make this community what it is.”

The owner of the establishment, Mr. Andrew Steamer, could not be reached for comment at press time.

We got ourselves a wedding…

February 8, 2009 at 11:03 pm (RP)

Tabitha and Sentry

Tabitha and Sentry

As the world of Shadow is being rebuilt anew, two of the residents there are about to start a new life together. On February 15th, Tabitha Diesel and Sentry Swashbuckler will be married in a ceremony to be held at the Ryman in Londinium, with a public reception to follow in the Serenity Station Club.

Tabitha Diesel has been a mechanic for most of her life, starting out in a mining colony on Regina. A terrible accident caused her to lose her left arm, which has been replaced by a heavy duty prosthetic for mechanical use, and a “normal” one for everyday tasks. Soon after, Tabitha was traveling the ‘verse as jobs came available. On one such trip, Tabitha was forced to fight off a particularly amorous and drunken captain. Mikie Rhiadra came to her aid, and the two became fast friends. Tabitha joined up with Mikie and made her way through the ‘verse to Hale’s Moon as Mikie’s new mechanic.

Sentry Swashbuckler was born and raised on Persephone, and at a young age found a great affinity for anything that could fly into the black. He was engaged to be married to a local schoolteacher, when an Alliance raid gone wrong ended her life. Stricken with grief, he attacked an Alliance patrol and had to go underground immediately after. He was able to search out his cousin, Lerch Swashbuckler, and joined him on Lerch’s Firefly, Freedom, as the mechanic and second hand. Lerch had been transporting goods to Hale’s Moon, and ran into Tabitha at the local watering hole. Knowing his cousin, Lerch suggested that Sentry should just “take some down time” and directed him over to Fook Yu’s.

Sentry was immediately taken by the freckled little lady on the sofa, while Tabitha was intrigued by the man walking in, clouded in a haze. As events unfolded on Hale’s Moon, the two became close, with Tabitha tending to Sentry’s wounds when involved in running firefights with Alliance loyalists, and the two talking late into the nights, planning how to bring happiness into each other’s little corner of the ‘verse. They could be seen spending a lot of time together at the various shindigs and watering holes around the local planets between repairs. One night in early December, Sentry surprised Tabitha and everyone at the Ryman when he stood up on the stage and proposed to her. She agreed, and the couple is feverishly finishing up details for their wedding next week.

Although the wedding itself will be restricted in the number of guests, the reception afterward (approximately 7PM SLT) is open to all, and can be accessed by clicking here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Revolution/120/126/1027
